Mazda: Proactive Safety with i-Activsense

Mazda’s i-Activsense name covers a range of safety and driver assistance technologies. Depending on the vehicle, cameras and sensors help monitor the road, identify potential hazards and provide warnings or assistance.​

Features available across selected Mazda models include:

• Smart Brake Support: Can warn of a potential collision and apply braking assistance in certain situations to help avoid an impact or reduce its severity.
• Blind Spot Monitoring: Alerts you to detected vehicles in monitored areas alongside and behind the car.
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert: Warns of detected traffic approaching from either side as you reverse.
• Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist: Can warn of an unintended lane departure and, where fitted, provide steering assistance.
• Mazda Radar Cruise Control: Can adjust your speed to help maintain a selected distance from a detected vehicle ahead.
• Driver Attention Alert or Driver Monitoring: Depending on the system fitted, can identify signs associated with fatigue or inattention and prompt the driver to take action.

For example, Mazda lists Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist and Driver Attention Alert as standard on the current Mazda3. Other models and grades have their own equipment combinations.​

Geely: Safety Technology Across an Electrified Range​

The Geely EX2, EX5 and Starray EM-i combine electric or plug-in hybrid power with a range of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, often shortened to ADAS.​

Depending on the model and specification, features include:

• Automatic Emergency Braking: Can apply the brakes when the system detects a collision risk and its operating conditions are met.
• Adaptive Cruise Control: Helps maintain a selected following distance by adjusting speed in response to detected traffic.
• Blind Spot Detection and Lane Change Assist: Help alert you to detected vehicles that may affect a lane change.
• Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist: Provide warnings or steering support in certain lane-departure situations.
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert: Helps you check for approaching traffic when reversing.
• Door Open Warning: Can alert occupants to detected approaching traffic before they open a door

The Geely EX2​

The compact, fully electric EX2 includes technologies such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning. The Ultra grade adds a 360-degree camera system to assist with low-speed manoeuvring.​

The Geely EX5

The fully electric EX5 offers systems including Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Door Open Warning. These provide additional information when changing lanes, reversing or preparing to leave the vehicle.​

The Starray EM-i

The Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid combines driver assistance technology with occupant protection features, including seven airbags. Our team can explain the equipment fitted to each grade and help you compare it with the electric Geely range.​

What Do These Features Help With?

These systems perform different jobs. A warning system does not necessarily apply the brakes or steer, and a parking camera does not mean the car can park itself.

Protection Beyond Driver Assistance

Safety also includes the systems designed to help protect occupants if a collision occurs.

Seat belts, airbags and the vehicle’s structure work together as part of its protection package. Airbag numbers and locations vary, so check the specification of the vehicle you are considering.

If you travel with children, check that your child seat is compatible with the car and the seating position you intend to use. Follow both the vehicle handbook and child-seat manufacturer’s installation instructions.

Driver assistance features support you, but you remain responsible for steering, braking and observing the road.

Performance can be affected by conditions such as heavy rain, glare, unclear road markings or dirt covering cameras and sensors. Systems also have operating limits and may not detect every vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist or obstacle.

Adaptive cruise control is not self-driving technology. Keep an appropriate following distance for the conditions and remain ready to take control.
