The Geely Starray EM-i is worth considering for business drivers who want electric driving for shorter journeys alongside the flexibility of a petrol engine for longer trips. Its plug-in hybrid system combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor. Regular access to home or workplace charging will help you make the most of its electric capability.
Pro and Max models have an 18.4kWh battery and offer up to 51 miles of electric-only range. Ultra features a larger 29.8kWh battery, increasing this to up to 84 miles. These WLTP figures are provided for comparison; actual range varies with driving style, temperature, vehicle load and use of heating or air conditioning.
You can continue driving using the petrol-powered hybrid system when the available electric-only range is depleted, provided there is fuel in the tank. However, regularly plugging in is the best way to make use of its electric range and reduce petrol use on shorter journeys. Your fuel consumption will depend on how frequently you charge and the journeys you make.
Pro and Max support DC charging at up to 30kW, allowing a 30–80% charge in approximately 20 minutes. Ultra supports up to 60kW, reducing this to approximately 16 minutes. All three models support AC charging at up to 6.6kW for home, workplace or public charging. Charging times depend on the charger, battery temperature, state of charge and other conditions.
Company car tax depends on your chosen model’s P11D value, its applicable Benefit-in-Kind percentage and your income tax rate. For plug-in hybrids, the percentage is affected by the certified CO₂ emissions, electric range and any applicable tax relief. As specifications differ between Pro, Max and Ultra, ask for the figures for your chosen vehicle and tax year when comparing business quotations.
