What is the Motability Scheme?
The Motability Scheme allows eligible disabled people to use their qualifying mobility allowance to lease a new vehicle.
Your allowance provider pays the agreed amount directly to Motability Operations. Depending on the car you choose, you may also need to make an upfront Advance Payment.
The Scheme brings several major motoring costs together in one lease package, including insurance, servicing and breakdown assistance. You lease the vehicle rather than own it.
Am I Eligible?
You need to receive one of the following qualifying allowances, with at least 12 months remaining on your award when you apply:
Receiving Attendance Allowance, a Blue Badge or the daily living component of PIP alone does not qualify you for the Scheme.

Do I Need to Drive Myself?
No. You can join as a passenger and nominate approved drivers to drive on your behalf.
The car must be used by you or for your benefit. This could include a nominated driver collecting your shopping or travelling to help you, even when you are not in the vehicle.

What Does the Lease Include?
Your Motability car lease includes:
You still pay for fuel or electricity, any required Advance Payment and optional extras. Other charges, such as insurance excesses or excess mileage, may apply under your agreement.
For new three-year car orders, the standard mileage allowance is 30,000 miles across the lease. This applies to orders placed from 1 July 2026, or from 1 September 2026 for customers receiving their allowance through Social Security Scotland. Earlier orders retain their applicable allowance.
What is an Advance Payment?
An Advance Payment is an upfront amount required for some vehicles, paid in addition to the mobility allowance used towards your lease. It is not a refundable security deposit.
The amount depends on the model and specification. Some vehicles may be available with no Advance Payment, but this still means using the agreed mobility allowance towards the lease.

Bring any equipment you regularly travel with so you can check the fit in person. A higher seating position or larger boot will not suit everyone in the same way, so trying the vehicle is an important part of choosing.

Can My Car Be Adapted?
Adaptations can help with driving, getting into and out of a vehicle, or loading mobility equipment.
The options depend on your requirements and the vehicle’s compatibility. Discuss any adaptations with us before ordering so these can be checked with an adaptations installer.
Many adaptations are available at no extra cost through the Scheme, while others involve an additional payment.

You may be eligible if you receive a qualifying mobility allowance and have at least 12 months remaining on your award. Qualifying allowances include the enhanced rate mobility component of PIP, higher rate mobility component of DLA and the relevant Scottish disability allowances, alongside WPMS and AFIP. Our team can help you understand the requirements before you apply.
Yes. You can join as a passenger and nominate approved drivers to drive for you. The vehicle must be used by you or for your benefit, and nominated drivers must meet the Scheme’s requirements.
Our Mazda Motability range includes selected versions of the Mazda2 Hybrid, Mazda CX-30, all-new Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-60. Geely options include the fully electric EX2 and EX5, alongside the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid. Available models, grades and Advance Payments can change, so check our latest offers or speak to our Motability Specialists.
The package includes insurance for up to three approved drivers, servicing and maintenance, MOT testing when required, breakdown assistance and vehicle tax. Windscreen repair or replacement and replacement tyres are also covered, subject to the Scheme’s terms and applicable limits. You pay for fuel or charging, plus any required Advance Payment and optional extras.
An Advance Payment is a one-off upfront amount required for some vehicles, in addition to the mobility allowance used towards your lease. It is not a refundable security deposit. The amount varies by model and specification, and some vehicles may be available with no Advance Payment.
No. A £0 Advance Payment means there is no additional upfront Advance Payment for that vehicle. You still use the agreed amount of your qualifying mobility allowance towards the lease and pay for costs such as fuel or electricity.
Yes. Green 4’s Geely Motability range includes the fully electric EX2 and EX5. Before choosing, consider your usual journeys and access to charging. Our team can explain the available vehicles and help you explore the charging support currently offered through the Scheme, subject to eligibility and installation requirements.
Adaptations can help with driving, getting in and out, or loading mobility equipment. Many are available at no extra cost through the Scheme, while others cost extra. Speak to us before ordering so your requirements and the vehicle’s compatibility can be checked with an adaptations installer.
Yes. We encourage you to bring your equipment to your appointment so you can check the boot opening, loading space and lifting requirements. Tell us beforehand if you need a hoist or another adaptation so we can help you explore suitable options.
Yes. Contact our team to arrange a test drive, subject to demonstrator availability and driver eligibility. This gives you time to assess comfort, visibility, access and controls before deciding. Please let us know about any adaptations or access requirements when booking.
No. Motability is a leasing scheme, and you cannot buy your Scheme vehicle at the end of the agreement. As your lease approaches its end, you can explore your next vehicle, subject to continuing eligibility.
