The all-new Mazda CX-5 introduces a new generation of one of Mazda’s most popular family SUVs, combining a more spacious interior with a fresh design, new technology and a simplified petrol mild-hybrid engine range.
For UK customers, the Mazda CX-5 is available in four familiar trim levels: Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line and Homura. Every version uses a 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G petrol engine with Mazda M Hybrid technology and a six-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel drive is available on selected higher grades.
Prices start from £31,550 for the Mazda CX-5 Prime-Line, with an extensive list of equipment included as standard.
This is the third generation of the Mazda CX-5 and represents a substantial update rather than a light redesign.
The new model is longer than its predecessor and has a longer wheelbase, creating additional space for passengers and luggage. Its interior has also been redesigned around a new touchscreen-based infotainment system, with Google built-in included throughout the range.

The exterior continues Mazda’s Kodo design philosophy, with a wider-looking stance, a five-point front grille and sculpted bodywork. Homura models add further visual details, including black alloy wheels, gloss-black lower body trim and Mazda’s Signature LED lighting.

The model can now be pre-ordered through Green 4 Mazda, with test drives and vehicle availability at our Mazda dealerships in Coventry, Leamington Spa and Stourbridge. The recommended on-the-road price includes VAT, number plates, delivery to the retailer, first registration fee, 12 months of Vehicle Excise Duty, the Mazda warranty and three years of European roadside assistance. Prices and specifications remain subject to change.
The AWD Homura has a list price above £40,000. Under current vehicle-tax rules, cars with a list price exceeding £40,000 may be subject to the applicable Expensive Car Supplement from the second licence. Optional equipment can also take a car’s list price beyond the threshold.

The new 2,488cc engine replaces the previous 2.0-litre petrol option in the UK Mazda CX-5 range.
Mazda describes its approach as “right-sizing”. Rather than using a smaller turbocharged engine, the Mazda CX-5 uses a larger-capacity naturally aspirated petrol engine designed to deliver smooth, predictable performance.
Cylinder deactivation allows the engine to operate using fewer cylinders when the full output is not required, such as while travelling at a steady speed.
The Mazda CX-5 is a mild hybrid, rather than a full hybrid or plug-in hybrid.
Its Mazda M Hybrid system captures energy that would otherwise be lost during braking and stores it in a 24-volt lithium-ion battery. This energy can then assist the petrol engine and power the car’s electrical systems.
Unlike a full hybrid, the Mazda CX-5 is not intended to cover meaningful distances using electric power alone. It does not need to be connected to an external charger.
The front-wheel-drive Mazda CX-5 accelerates from 0–62mph in 10.5 seconds and has a top speed of 116mph.

At 1,860mm wide before mirrors, customers may want to consider the width of their garage, parking space or driveway. The car measures 2,077mm across with its mirrors open.
Although the all-new Mazda CX-5 is noticeably longer, the increase is relatively modest in day-to-day terms. An additional 115mm is roughly the length of a large smartphone, so it should still feel familiar when parking or positioning the vehicle on the road.
The increase in wheelbase is more significant because the full 115mm of additional length has effectively been added between the axles. This helps provide:
The new model is only 15mm wider across its body, so it should not feel dramatically broader on narrow roads. Interestingly, Mazda’s official figures show that it is 38mm narrower with the door mirrors open, measuring 2,077mm compared with 2,115mm for the previous model. This may make the new Mazda CX-5 slightly easier to position through narrow entrances or garages, despite its wider body.
The Mazda CX-5 provides 583 litres of luggage capacity with all five seats in use, measured to the beltline and including underfloor storage.
Folding the rear seats increases capacity to as much as 2,019 litres, measured to the roof.
The rear seats use a practical 40:20:40 split, allowing customers to carry longer items while retaining one or two usable rear seats. Homura models also include a hands-free power liftgate, which can be operated by moving a foot beneath the rear bumper.

The new Mazda CX-5 therefore provides approximately 12% more boot space with all five seats in use.
With the rear seats folded, capacity has increased by around 23%, making the new model considerably more practical for larger loads, family holidays, sports equipment or trips to the garden centre. The previous model’s figures could be slightly lower on diesel versions because of the separate AdBlue tank.
This makes the all-new Mazda CX-5 larger and more practical than its predecessor without representing a dramatic change in width or manoeuvrability. Existing Mazda CX-5 owners should find it familiar to drive and park, while benefiting from noticeably more passenger and luggage space.

A 10.25-inch digital instrument display is also standard. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, with a wired connection on Prime-Line and wireless connectivity from Centre-Line upwards.
Mazda Connected Services are provided with a seven-year complimentary period beginning from the vehicle’s first registration. Continued access after the complimentary period may require a subscription.
